Eight glasses a day is a common mantra of health gurus, personal trainers and those promoting weight loss diets. But is that much water really necessary?...

The Health and Wellness event in Lansdale, PA last night was terrific. Good crowd asking a lot of questions. Dr. Jane Lock of Lock Chiropratic in Collegeville, PA provided some great information on the differences between whole food supplements and synthetic vitamins.

As a clinical nutritionist, Dr. Lock helps people of all ages and with all types of body / life challenges. If you have a chance, I encourage you to speak with her about alignments, nutrition, and general wellness. Her practice is located in Collegeville, PA and a quick Google search will provide the address and phone number.

Some very good news was announced at the meeting...it appears there is a Health and Wellness product event being scheduled (at least tentatively) for the 3rd of May. Indications are that the event will be held either in King of Prussia or Plymouth Meeting, PA. The 3rd is a Saturday and it looks like a 3-4 hour event covering liquid nutritional supplements, protein supplements, calcium supplements, etc. Everything you ever wanted to know about staying fit, healthy, and fighting the effects of aging. Look for upcomming announcements identifying the location, exact times, etc. The last event did not have an admission charge...maybe they'll do the same thing again!

Jimb...I agree that you need to look at the ingredients to ensure that a calcium supplment provides the right mix of ingredients. Vitamin D and magnesium are important, but a calcium supplement with inulin and the Omegas (Omega 3 6 and 9) are also important for absorption and processing by your body.

Thank you for your comments and the reference to your calcium supplement.

Well a calcium supplement needs a few key minerals to be worthwhile taking at all. Just a few examples are :
These are all in my calcium supplement
Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) 1600 IU 400%
Vitamin K2 (as MK-7) 100 mcg **
Calcium (from Algas Calcareas) 720 mg 72%
Magnesium (from Algas Calcareas) 350 mg 54%
Trace Minerals (from Algas Calcareas) 1464 mg **
Boron (FruiteX B® Calcium Fructoborate) 3 mg **
Vitamin C (calcium ascorbate) 50 mg 80%

along with other trace minerals that are all very important, just look into what you are going to buy and make sure it contains the right minerals because they all go into play when having a proper calcium supplement.

The meeting started promptly at 7:45pm as advertised and completed about an hour later. The 25 minute presentation covered the benefits of nutrtional supplements as well as the company (Life Force International) that makes them. It was pointed out during the meeting that Life Force is one of the few companies that does their own processing. Most other companies buy from large vitamin factories. Life Force cold processes their supplements which does a couple of things:
1. Cold processing keeps the enzimes, amino acids, and other nutrients alive. It's like going down the fruit and vegetable isle at the grocery store and eating everything in sight versus going down the canned and frozen food isle where all the fruits and vegetables have been processed and are lower in nutritional content.
2. Making their own nutritional supplement means they have complete control over the quality of the product. It was pointed out during the meeting that Life Force has a pharmacetical grade certification - that means quality in the ingredients, the preparation process, and the training that each person in the processing facility receives.

A Q&A session afterward covered the other nutritional products that Life Force provides and taught us how to compare one supplement versus another. To make the comparison, take the data sheets from both supplements. Select a nutritent in one and see if it is in the other. If they are in both, line both of them off the list. Continue until you can determine which has the most nutrients. You're looking for a nutritional supplement that is nutrient dense (more than 100 vitamins, minerals, glyconutrients, etc. in a single dose) - otherwise you are wasting money and not getting the maximum benefits for your body.

Attending these types of seminars, and there are a few of them that highlight a variety of products, provides us with a forum to discuss preventitive health care and how we can best take care of our bodies so that we can live well.

What an event! Annie Taylor's presentation was terrific. She covered recent trends in cancer rates and type II diabetes. She's been an Registered Nurse for over 20 years and her knowledge on the subject of health and wellness was very moving.

Several people got up to give their own testimonials on one ailment or another. Pain they may have been experiencing for years. They talked about changing a small part of their life by adding a nutritional supplement. I am always amazed at how dramatic a change a person's body can undergo with just a small addition of a balanced nutrtional supplement.

If you have the opportunity, I would strongly suggest attending a health and wellness expo in your local area. Not only are they informative, they can be very moving and quite literally - life changing events.

What an event! There was a full house for the Health and Wellness event that occured last night in Trappe, PA. Total Body Wellness at 379 Main Street has a nice meeting area in the back of the building. People arrived around 7:15-7:30 and the event started at 7:45.

I had the honor of introducing Dr. Jane Lock. She has more than 16 years of clinical nutrition experience. Her presentation lasted about 50 minutes and concluded with a short Q&A period. People stayed afterward to ask questions one-on-one about nutrition, health, and supplementation. It was an excellent meeting and I thank Dr. Lock for allowing me to be the master of cerimonies.

There will be more of these events - the next one is scheduled for the Monday or Tuesday after Thanksgiving. One of the questions that Dr. Lock and others had is which day is best? Would someone prefer early in the week, say a Monday evening or later in the week on a Thursday or Friday night?
