Carbohydrates and fats are macronutrients, and macronutrients are specific types of nutrients that provide either energy or calories to the body. Nutrients are substances that are required to promote growth, healthy metabolism and other vital functions of the body. Macro means large, and macronutrients are nutrients that are required in relatively large amounts in order to promote growth. Each macronutrient provides calories, but the amount of calories provided by each of these nutrients varies. Carbohydrates and proteins both provide 4 calories per gram, and fat provides 9 calories per gram. In addition to carbohydrates, fats and proteins, there is only one other substance that provides calories, which is alcohol. Alcohol provides 7 calories for every gram, but alcohol is not treated as a macronutrient because we do not require it for survival.

Losing weight is not that complicated. It just takes consistency. Once you have begun to eat healthier it is easy to slip back into your old unhealthy eating habits, but you must be persistent and vigilant to maintain your ideal weight.Adopt the attitude of treating your body like a temple and supply only the best of everything to it. No processed foods. No junk foods. You need to keep those toxins and empty calories out of your system for your body to work at its best. Balance your carbohydrates, proteins and fibre. Keep your protein intake at a minimum as most of us tend to consume too much protein each day. Avoid an excessive amount of fatty foods. All things in moderation is key. Your body needs fats and proteins to function, but excessive amounts just cause a buildup and that can make you sick or your body to gain weight as it stores the excess.
