When it comes to health, diet, and nutrition, many people are looking for helpful information. Unfortunately there are many different myths out there flying around that are giving people the wrong idea. The last thing you want to do is to believe a myth about your nutrition and health. So, it’s important to know what is true and what is only a myth. So, here is a look at some of the common nutritional myths and the real truth behind them.
Myth #1 - All Fat is Bad for You - One myth that more than likely you have heard at some point in your life is that all fat is bad for you. Well, this is definitely a myth; in fact, fat is important to everyone’s diet. Fats help the body to absorb nutrients, they are used to keep cell membranes strong, and also help with nerve transmissions as well. However, eating too much fat can lead to gaining weight, cancer, and heart disease in some cases. Not all fats are the same though. There are actually some fats out there that help to promote great health, although some bad fats cause significant health problems. So, it is important to understand that not all fat is bad for you.
Myth #2 - Brown Eggs are Better for You - Another very common myth out there about nutrition is that brown eggs are better for you than white eggs are. In reality, the color of the shell of an egg really has nothing to do with whether or not it is better for you. The only thing that the shell color depends on is the hen breed. Although the hens that lay the eggs look different, the taste and nutrition of a brown egg is no different than that of a white egg.
Myth #3 - You Shouldn’t Eat Nuts When You’re Dieting - Many people have heard the myth that you should not eat nuts when you are dieting. While you will find that there are quite a few calories in nuts, they are not bad for you and they are perfectly fine to eat when you are dieting, although you should always eat in moderation. In fact, they can be very important to a great diet. Nuts are high in good fats for the body, which actually help to lower your bad cholesterol levels. In fact, eating nuts each day in limited portions can help to reduce heart disease risks.
Myth #4 - Losing Weight is Easier When You Skip Meals - Too many people have the idea that skipping meals will help them to lose weight more easily. Well, this is just another myth. In fact, the truth is just the opposite. When you skip meals, the body begins to think that you are starving, so it decides to slow the metabolism down. Then you often go on to eat too much for the next meal you eat. It can trick your body into actually gaining weight, so you are better to eat several small meals rather than to skip meals and eat one or two bigger meals a day.
Keep fit and give your body what it needs with essential vitamins and minerals.
