So many people have a problem gaining weight over the holidays. Now the holidays are just around the corner and you may be dreading those holidays pounds that just seem to creep on each year, making your New Years resolution always about losing some weight. Well, this year it’s time to make it different. You can work to ensure that you don’t gain weight, in spite of all the Christmas parties, the huge Thanksgiving dinner, and all those cookies and candies that come along with the holidays. Here are some tips to help you keep those holiday pounds at bay so you can come up with a different New Years resolution this year.
Eat Before You Go Out
If you are going out to a holiday party, one way to make sure that you don’t overeat is to make sure that you eat before you go out. You don’t want to go to a party feeling hungry when you know there are going to be many foods there that will start packing on the pounds. So, before you go, eat some soup, an apple, or even a nice salad so you won’t be terribly hungry when you arrive and end up pigging out on the buffet.
Avoid Crackers and Other High Fat Foods
Another way to keep from packing on the pounds during the holiday season is to avoid crackers and other high fat foods that seem to always be around. Eating isn’t the bad part about the holidays, but it’s the choice of foods that can be so bad for you. With all the carbs that you eat, you can make your blood sugar go nuts, not to mention all the fat. So, just avoid these types of foods.
Go for Vegetables, Cheese, and Shrimp
If you want to eat without eating foods high in carbs and fats, you may be wondering what are the best choices if you want to avoid gaining weight. Well, you’ll be better off to go with vegetables, cheeses, and shrimp, as long as the shrimp isn’t fried up. These foods provide protein, a bit of fat, and some good nutrients. They also will fill you up so you won’t end up overeating.
Stay as Far Away as Possible from the Food
Staying as far away as possible from the food is important if you want to avoid packing on the holiday pounds. Try to stand or sit across the room from the food. If you stand right next to it, you’ll keep looking at the food and deciding to eat a bit more. Most of the time, you’ll actually cut back about 50% when you stay on the other side of the room from the food.
