While headaches are a common ailment among men and women, the women have the margin by 5%. In other words, 5% more women than men have headaches. The reasons can vary and the symptoms can range in severity. If you are a headache sufferer do not get alarmed. The reasons are more than likely a result of something very easy to remedy. They can be the result of lack of sleep, stress, or any number of problems you are experiencing. Some people get headaches if they do not have their usual cup of coffee. This is the result of caffeine withdrawal.

Some headaches may be due to more serious problems. Migraines are one type of headache that can literally put the sufferer to bed. There is sensitivity to light, sound, and often the person will feel nauseous. The majority of people who have migraine headaches consult their doctor as soon as possible hoping for an end to the misery they are suffering sooner rather than later.

The following are a few of the different types of headaches from which people suffer. They are usually not serious and do respond to pain medication, although some may require immediate attention from a physician.

Ice-pick headache - these are a sudden, brief stab of pain in the head, usually the front or side.

Cluster headache - a headache on one side of your head, normally in a series and can last for a couple of hours.

Post traumatic headache - this is a headache that happens because of a head injury or a neck injury, that can last for up to a year or more after the injury.

Tension headache - a headache that is usually not severe and is normally only across the front of the head or in the back of the head.

Thunderclap headache - this can be a serious symptom of bleeding in the head. It is usually a sudden agonizing headache.

Sinus headache - these are normally the result of infected sinuses. They can be quite painful. Normally they are felt around the nose and forehead and sometimes are accompanied by parts of the face being swollen, especially around the eyes.

The onset of a headache can be quite debilitating to many people especially if it is a migraine or even a sinus headache. The first order of treatment is normally an over the counter medication. This will normally be all the treatment that is needed for a headache unless it is a migraine or something similar which most of the time requires a prescription medication.

Some headaches can be traced to a specific food or lack of a nutrient that the body requires. To meet your daily nutritional requirements and possibly avoid those headaches, visit:
