The B-12 vitamin is one of the B vitamins that is essential to maintaining a fit and healthy body. B-12 is also known as Cobalamin, and is key to your body’s conversion process of carbohydrates, fats and proteins into energy. More importantly, vitamin B-12 helps keep your red blood cells healthy which in turn helps your reduce your risk of heart disease. B-12 helps your immune system to function at peak levels and we all know that a strong immune system means your body is fighting infections and disease on a continual basis. You should also know that the B-12 vitamin is used by your body to create the protective covering of all nerve cells in your body - again, vitamin B-12 is an immune system strengthener.
The amount of B-12 that your body needs is relatively small but must be replenished on a regular basis. Vitamin B-12 is only found in animal foods such as liver, eggs, fish and meat and most people (in the United States) consume far more than their recommended daily amount. This is generally not a problem as the body can only absorb about half of the B-12 that you consume. It is worth noting that the body can recycle the B-12 which also reduces the impact of a B-12 deficiency. BUT….strict vegetarians or vegans are likely to require B-12 supplements since they do not eat any animal products that contains this essential vitamin.
Because Vitamin B-12 has a strong effect on red and white blood cells, receiving a B-12 shot at the doctor’s office gives your body an energy boost. You can maintain high energy levels by also eating a balanced diet and consuming a nutritional supplement that contains Vitamin B-12 on a regular basis!
Whether you regularly consume meat, fish and poultry or are a strict vegetarian, the medical community agrees that a balanced diet, regular exercise and some form of nutritional supplement are required to keep your body fit and healthy. A nutritional supplement should contain a balanced blend of vitamins - including the B-complex vitamins and Vitamin B-12. A whole food supplement does not contain synthetics or man-made vitamins and in liquid form, it is readily absorbed by the body. One source of a whole food, liquid supplement can be found at:
