There was a great article today in the newspaper (USA Today, 16 April 2008, page 9D) titled “How physically active are you in your daily life?”  The article contained a short quiz, and some information on Counting Your Steps - a way to get some physical activity in your busy life.

The quiz was adapted from “Move Yourself” and helps determine whether you lead an active or inactive life.  Here are the questions.  Simply answer yes or no…

1.  Do you have a job in which you spend most of your day at a desk?

2.  Why you get home from work or school (note that it works for kids too!), do you eat dinner in front of the TV?

3.  Do you reserve your evenings for watching TV or a movie?  (be honest!!)

4.  Do you weekend plans usually consist of a lot of sedentary activities like eating, drinking and sitting around?

5.  If you have a dog, does someone else usually walk it?

6.  Do you have someone else do your yard or house work?

7.  When you walk into a two- or three-story building do you take the elevator to the higher floors?

8.  Does walking a block or going up a flight of stairs leave you out of breath?

9.  Are you unlikely to get 20 or 30 minutes of exercise a day most days of the week?

10.  Do you rarely set aside time to exercise?

If you answered yes to seven or more of the questions, you’re probably leading a “super-inactive” life.  Their words, not mine, but still just as true and you definately need to change your ways!!

If you answered yes to four to six questions, you can use more activity in your daily life.

If you answered yes to three questions or fewer, you’re doing pretty good!
