As I said a couple of days ago, I got this bout of either food poisoning or a stomach virus. It’s hard to think about exercising, eating right, and taking your daily nutritional supplement when your sick. But isn’t that the time you need to do those things the most?
It is common practice for hospital personnel to get patients up on their feet as quickly as possible. They force the issue because doctors and nurses have found that patients that get out of bed, move around, start walking, etc. make a faster recovery than those that remain in bed. So when you and I are sick, why do we then skip going to the gym? Why do we pick at food rather than making sure at this critical time we are eating a right balance of nutrients? We are counting on our bodies to fight the illness but yet we don’t give our bodies the tools, the ammo, to fight.
It is very easy to fall out of habit when your sick. I’m guilty of it myself. Just this past week, when I was sick, I stopped my exercise routine. I stopped eating balanced meals. I even stopped taking my nutritional supplement (which I take religiously every day). It got me thinking (and boy did I have a lot of time to think) just what was I expecting? If I’m not giving my body the tools to recover, how can I expect to recover quickly? So I’m back in my routine and I would encourage you to keep your routine. As I’ve started taking my supplement and a few very light workouts my appetite, strength, vitality, feeling of wellness is coming back. I just wish I had kept my routine. Rather than being down for almost a week, I’m confident it would have been only a few days.
Next time we’ll see. Just as every body is different. Just as everyone must determine their own exercise, diet and nutritional supplement that works for them, I’ll run my own body test to see if when the next time I’m sick, I can recover quicker by being consistent. Now the only challenge is when is the next time. I’ve only gotten sick four or five times over the last several years. I’m hoping that consistency will make it some time before I’m sick again!
