Been down and out the last few days with either food poisoning or a stomach virus.  Maybe because I’m getting a bit older but it’s seems a bit harder to recover and to ‘ignore’ the symptoms that go along with being sick.  You know what I’m talking about…that achy, tired, sometimes nauseous feeling.  Used to be that you could just put the symptoms in the back of your mind, saying to yourself I am NOT going to be sick, and just go right on partying.

Well, I think I’ve past that blissful period of my life.  Now I do take pretty good care of myself.  I take my daily liquid nutritional supplement and over the past several years I can count on one hand the number of colds I’ve had to deal with - considering people are passing stuff around all the time, a handful is pretty good!

This time I wasn’t so lucky.  Whether it was food poisoning or a case of a stomach virus, this one put me down for several days.  It seems I’m just coming back to life now and it got me thinking.  Thinking about what my grandmother used to say all the time  -

You’re nothing without your health.

It wasn’t until this past week that I realized how true it really is.  It makes no difference

  • how big of a house you live in;

  • how fancy a car you drive;

  • how many people like you; or

  • how much money you make

when you are sick - all those worldly things don’t matter much anymore.  All you care about is getting better.  You start looking for the ‘fixes’ offered by the medical community.  Sometime they have them, sometime they don’t.  You do love having family and friends make things a bit easier but it still doesn’t take away the symptoms nor the illness.

Being sick the last several days has renewed my desire to stay well.

To do everything I can to PREVENT disease within my own body.

To PREVENT illness from ever taking control of my life.

To live as long as I enjoy living.
