Ok, so you are going to embark on a lifestyle diet change.  We know that only by committing to a LIFESTYLE diet change will we get the results we want for the long term.  The first step is to make sure that you always have your menu plan with you whenever you head to the grocery store.  You’ll need it - especially when first starting out - because we tend to get distracted by sales, previous purchases, what we like/don’t like, etc.  Remember we are making changes to our eating habits and retraining our mind and our body.  You’ll need your diet menu plan with you to stay on track.  Here are some tips for making that first visit to the grocery store:

  1. Mentally identify what foods typically set off your cravings.  These are your ‘trigger foods’ and you’ll want to avoid them.  Watch for those foods that you typically don’t stop eating until the bag, jar or can is empty - for example, nuts, chips, candies, cookies.  Keep them out of your shopping basket.  Keep the trigger foods out of the house!
  2. Eat before you go shopping!  Shopping on an empty stomach will trigger those cravings and your cart will be filled with those empty-the-bag foods.
  3. Here’s a hint that many of us never think about - DO MOST OF YOUR SHOPPING ALONG THE PERIMETER OF THE STORE.  Why?  Because that’s where you’ll find the most nutritious foods.  Think about the layout of your own grocery store.  Most of the items in the middle of the isles and the store in general are either boxed, canned or prepared.  The produce, dairy, meat and other fresh foods is situated on the outer edges of the grocery store.  The reason is that these areas need access to the loading dock and refrigeration areas of the store and are replenished much more frequently than the shelved items.  Stick to the outside perimeter of your grocery store for the freshest, most nutritious foods.
  4. Shop the SALES!  Take advantage of sales, buying in build, and buying exactly what you need.  By doing so you can avoid the common excuse that going on your lifestyle diet is too expensive.  In reality - you should spend less because you are buying less prepared, more expensive foods.
  5. Always include a source of PROTEIN in any of your snacks or meals.  Protein is the second most hunger-satisfying nutrient.  First is fat and we are trying to avoid the fat - so eat the PROTEIN!
  6. While you may like fresh vegetables, sometimes we find them spoiling in the refrigerator because we just don’t eat them fast enough.  Try FROZEN VEGETABLES with no added sugars.  Check to make sure there are no unwanted additives and if they are simply frozen vegetables, they are a good source of nutrition, will last longer than fresh, and will be less expensive.
  7. Check the food labels.  Compare two products for the amount of fat.  ALWAYS select the lowest amount of fat, etc. and you’ll be surprised how many calories, grams of fat, etc. you’ll eliminate each day.
  8. Pay attention to SERVING SIZE.  Some foods you might assume as one serving - such as a can of soup or a package of noodles - may actually be a serving for two or three people.

There will be a Life Force nutritional supplement product presentation on Friday the 29th of February.  This event will feature a one-hour presentation on Life Force and its products.  There will be ample time during the presentation to ask questions about your general nutrition requirements, daily liquid nutritional supplements like Body Balance, and liquid calcium supplements like OsteoProCare (with glucosamine and chondroitin) and OsteOmegaCare (with glucosamine and a balanced blend of Omega 3 6 and 9).

After choosing a diet plan, and making sure that it is one that can last a lifetime, you will need to make the necessary intellectual and emotional commitments needed for success.  Don’t look at your diet plan as a temporary thing, something to discard or ignore once you achieved your weight loss goal.  There are four things that you can do to help make the intellectual and emotional commitments to make your diet last a lifetime -

Whether you’ve lost weight on a low-calorie or a low carbohydrate diet, it’s how you handle the results that determines which diet works best for you.  Following a low-carb diet that evolves into a moderate-carb eating plan, and eventually into a controlled-carb lifestyle is the key to losing weight AND KEEPING IT OFF!.  Many times, low-calorie dieters reach their goal and then celebrate their weight loss by weeks of uncontrolled eating and drinking - celebrating their weight loss - and unfortunately, ignoring the scale.  A month later, a large chunk of the weight has returned, and then its back to weeks, if not months, of deprivation ALL OVER AGAIN.

As I said a couple of days ago, I got this bout of either food poisoning or a stomach virus.  It’s hard to think about exercising, eating right, and taking your daily nutritional supplement when your sick.  But isn’t that the time you need to do those things the most?

There are several types of soluble calcium supplement available, but the very best also include magnesium and Vitamin D. The reason is that Calcium is not naturally absorbed into the body, and without the magnesium and Vitamin D, the calcium supplement would simply pass through your digestive system.

Remember that if magnesium and Vitamin D are not included in your supplement, then you would have to take them separately for the calcium to be effective.

Been down and out the last few days with either food poisoning or a stomach virus.  Maybe because I’m getting a bit older but it’s seems a bit harder to recover and to ‘ignore’ the symptoms that go along with being sick.  You know what I’m talking about…that achy, tired, sometimes nauseous feeling.  Used to be that you could just put the symptoms in the back of your mind, saying to yourself I am NOT going to be sick, and just go right on partying.

I firmly believe that an aloe vera and sea vegetable supplement is an excellent way to maintain good health, and keep at bay the ravages of modern living. Increasing levels of atmospheric pollution, and overuse of pesticides on food, combine to threaten our health at the cellular level where the free radicals that these pollutants produce in your body help to destroy body cells and DNA and cause premature aging, heart conditions and many other forms of disease.

If you have a bone problem then the benefits of liquid calcium supplements are what you need to supplement the calcium content of your diet, and also to provide the other elements that can promote the health of your bones and joints.

Liquid supplements in general have advantages of pills and capsules in that the active ingredients are much more easily absorbed by the body, and also cause fewer digestion problems. Take capsules for example. Normally made from gelatine, they are not vegetarian friendly, and can partially dissolve in the stomach to form a tough gluey mass that retards the assimilation of the supplement into the body.It is well known that liquids are the best form of medicine or supplement, which is why so much effort and money has been expended over the years in developing soluble versions of simple medications such as aspirin, paracetamol and even protein supplements. If you have the choice between a solid or a liquid form of any particular substance that has to be ingested into the body to be effective, then the soluble version wins every time unless a form of prolonged release is necessary.
