It getting close to that day.  The day that everyone, or nearly everyone makes their new year’s resolution.  What’s going to be your resolution this year?  I’ve been on a quest to find some of the best resolutions.  Trying to find those that stand out. Know what I found?  Most are the same!  And that’s not necessarily a bad thing.  Here are some that I’ve heard over the past several days….

  • Find a job that allows you to spend more time with the ones you love.
  • Not live paycheck to paycheck.
  • Never wear another business suit, uniform, pair of pantyhose unless you really want to - not because you have to.
  • That when the alarm clock rings, your’re not praying its Friday.
  • You want a schedule that fits your own clock…not someone else’s.
  • You want to be fit, doing the things you want to do, and not feel embarrassed or self-conscious about doing them.
  • You want to be loved, respected, looked-up-to, relied upon.
  • You want to make a difference.

There are many more.  You’ll notice at least one common thread throughout the list - one that deals with self-esteem and self-worth.  Many if not most of us are forced to work jobs we don’t like, put up with stress we don’t need, and meet commitments we would rather not make.   So how do we change?  How do we make 2008 different than all the rest?

Start with taking care of yourself.

Sounds simple. So why is that when looking back at 2007 we didn’t do it?  Maybe we didn’t stick to our feeling fit routine.  We started working out at the gym, but then we skipped one day.  Pretty soon we skipped two.  Then we were right back into our old habits of sitting and watching the 15th rerun of Law & Order.

The New Year celebration is a time to renew.  To make new commitments.  To make promises to oneself that make this year better than all the rest combined.  Yes, I am making my new year’s resolutions too.  Not because everyone else is doing it.  This year I’m doing it for myself.  This year is MY year.
