Poor nutrition is one of the major contributors of heart disease. The average American consumes too many calories, too much fat, too much sugar, and never enough fruits, vegetables, or water. When poor nutrition is combined with stress, the body responds with inflammation. Continue the habit of poor nutrition and the body responds with ‘chronic inflamation’ - inflammation that occurs on a frequent basis. Chronic inflammation is what leads to cardiovascular (heart) disease.
A healthy diet is your best weapon to fight cardiovascular disease. It’s not hard to have a healthy diet, it just involves breaking some bad habits! It is the overall pattern of your eating choices that will make the difference. Good nutrition means eating a variety of foods, moderating ou intake of certain foods (especially during the holidays!), and controlling the amount of food and calories you eat (again, especially during the holidays!). It also means that you get enough of the right kind of foods, such as antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables.
