Let’s face it, our bodies were not designed to diet!  If they were, we would have all been on or still on a diet trying to achieve some target weight.  There have been diets that only included protien, others included only carbohydrates, still others that were liquid.  I’ve even seen a diet listed that consisted of large amounts of chocolate (yes I know….how sweet it could have been!) and on the other side, one that consisted of eating only cabbage soup!

What do they all have in common?  You could not eat that way for an extended period of time.  Most of us drop off the diet because we either go crazy with the monotony or worse yet, we begin to crave.  We start craving for all sorts of foods and wind up at the refridgerator late at night eating everything that’s in arms reach and doesn’t require heating!  Standing in front of that fridge and gorging for three minutes is more than enough time to add back all the calories you missed during the day.  Afterwards, you feel guilty, dejected, and just plain bad about yourself.

So what do you do?  You can make a few simple changes in your diet that can really make a difference in achieving your ideal body weight.  You simply can’t have your body enter ’starvation mode.’  Starvation mode means your brain and body are pulling nutrients from other parts of your system - like using lean muscle - to support vital functions.  If you are not ingesting the raw materials for your body to operate, your body will use what it has available to survive.  Therefore it is vital that you continue to consume nutrient dense foods and change your eating habits rather then starting on the latest diet fad.

It’s relatively simple to eat a nutrient dense food.  Sometimes we choose to supplement with a good vitamin supplement because that way we can make sure we are providing our body what it needs to thrive (not just survive) each day.  A good supplement is usually in liquid form and is considered a whole food.  A whole food has not be pasturized or heated so all the enzymes, amino acids, etc. are intact.  Any food that has been processed (such as canned vegetables and frozen dinners) have been heated to eliminate those essential nutrients.  Some food manufactures add synthetic (man-made) vitamins and minerals back into the product to raise the nutritional content a bit.

You can get more information on why dieting does not work and learn more about whole food vitamin supplements from a variety of sources.  We encourage you to post your’s here!
