Removal of waste from our colon or lower intestines is commonly called Colon Cleansing or Detoxifying.  Some studies have shown that an excessive buildup of waste in our intestines reduces the overall absorption of nutrients.  Foods, pill vitamins, and other solids start to dissolve with the acids in our stomachs and continue to be dissolved through our upper and lower intestines.  Anything that is not dissolved is eliminated by our body as waste.

Activated charcoal is made by super heating and then granulating a substance, sometimes coconut shells.  The process creates a botanical (one made from plants) form of charcoal that is safe for consumption.  Charcoal is recognized as one of the best absorptive agents we can consume.  In fact, activated charcoal has the ability to absorb many times its own weight in gases, toxins and chemicals.  In hospitals and emergency care units, they often use activated charcoal to reduce the impact of a poisoning (such as food poisoning).

It is the absorptive properties of activated charcoal that interests us the most when colon cleansing or detoxifying.  When cleansing, the body produces a lot of gas which causes bloating.  The gases tend to be toxic to our bodies causing headaches or nausea.  Taking an activated charcoal while cleansing can significantly reduce or eliminate the effects of the gas and waste elimination resulting in no bloating, no headaches, no nausea.  I would recommend during your next colon cleansing or body detoxifying, you ensure your colon cleanse program includes activated charcoal.

By the way….When we were discussing solids being digested from the stomach down….liquids on the other hand begin their absorption in our mouth and most complete their absorption in the stomach.   It’s one of the reasons we discuss the benefits of a liquid supplement so much!
